Weight Loss Surgery
Virginia Hospital Center offers a comprehensive Weight Loss Surgery Program designed to provide the highest quality of care to the morbidly obese patient. Directed by bariatric surgeon Dr. J. R. Salameh, the program is modeled after the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence.
Our bariatric surgeons are board certified and have years of experience in weight loss surgery. The weight loss surgery procedure of choice is laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band®) which is an innovative, safe and effective minimally invasive surgery for morbidly obese adult patients who have repeatedly failed more conservative weight reduction alternatives such as supervised diet, drugs, exercise, and behavior-modification programs.
The Weight Loss Surgery Program is a well-structured and multidisciplinary program which includes, in addition to surgical weight loss procedures, a number of other critical elements to help ensure a successful long-term weight loss:
- Nutritional evaluation and education
- Psychological evaluation and support
- Body fat analysis
- Support group meetings
- Medically supervised weight loss program
- Exercise and health promotion programs
- Specialty services thoroughly familiar with the obese patient's needs (anesthesiology, radiology, endocrinology, cardiology, plastic surgery, etc.)

Informational seminars are routinely held every month at the Hospital. Attendance at the seminars is free but registration is required as seating is limited. These seminars allow patients to meet the surgeons and obtain more information on weight loss surgery including the risks and benefits, the alternative therapies and the expectations before and after surgery.
